Book Launch: The Evening Pink

Ethan Rafal
Book launch From 15.10.2026 To 15.10.2026

We are excited to invite you to the launch of The Evening Pink (2011-2026), a photobook by Ethan Rafal, presented at Fotogalleriet Oslo.

An Anti-Western photographed at the twilight of climate fallout, The Evening Pink was created in landscapes severely affected by fire, drought, and the total breakdown of ecosystems. Revisiting the Western genre—a cinematic language long-focusing on themes of self-destruction—the project includes unique photographic prints, books, and film-based works made in the American West.

The Evening Pink was often photographed in landscapes formerly used as Western film sets. This methodology visualizes climatic changes over the last century; today, these sites are often found ravaged by mega fires.

In The Evening Pink, photographs from modern North America can be viewed as postcards of warning for the near Norwegian future: wildfires are coming. Norway is the last country in the sub-Arctic region to experience wildfires.

The photo book The Evening Pink—First Edition (2011–26) is set for release on October 15. A work of slow culture, the printing and binding process alone took 16 months to complete: seven teams of printers, bookbinders, and craftspeople worked on the project, with a combined total of over 200 years of experience.

The release party will include a live programme of video and a performance with the book.
And, of course, pie and whiskey.
