DKS LAB – Fotogalleriet

DKS LAB

DKS-LAB is a nationwide network of experimental platforms for visual art in Den Kulturelle Skolesekken (in English "The Cultural Schoolbag"), DKS, which facilitates the opportunity for artists to develop and test content for the DKS program. The purpose of the initiative is to give children and young people more frequent and meaningful encounters with visual art, by giving artists the opportunity to experiment and gain important experience in communicating to the target group before creating program proposals for DKS.

DKS-LAB Oslo was first implemented for three years, 2021 – 2023, as a collaboration between Fotogalleriet and Oslo Kunstforening with funding from Kulturtanken and the municipality of Oslo. Fotogalleriet and Oslo Kunstforening will continue the collaboration for three more years, from 2024-2026. Participation in DKS-LAB is announced annually through an open call. Open call for participation in 2024 will be published on our website and social media in spring 2024.

Participating artists in DKS-LAB Oslo 2023 were Carolina Vásquez, Hjørdis Kurås, Charlotte Rostad, Trygve Ohren, Sara Guldmyr and Ollie Hermansson.

Participating host institutions in 2023 were Pikene på Broen, Nordnorsk Kunstnersenter, Kunsthall Trondheim, Kunstbanken Hedmark Kunstsenter and Oppland Kunstsenter, Fotogalleriet and Oslo Kunstforening, Telemark Kunstsenter and Vestfold Kunstsenter, Rogaland Kunstsenter, Møre og Romsdal Kunstsenter, Bærum Kunsthall, Agder Kunstsenter and Kristiansand Kunsthall, Rom for kunst og arkitektur.

Participating artists in DKS-LAB Oslo 2022 were Lexie Owen, Mor Efrony and Icaro Zorbar.

The project is a multi-year collaboration between host institutions, county municipalities, Sparebankstiftelsen DNB and Kulturtanken. Fotogalleriet has offered guided visits to our current exhibitions as part of the DKS programme in Oslo for many years. In 2020 we began focusing on new artistic productions to bring the mandate of Fotogalleriet and contemporary artistic thinking into schools and classrooms.
