Fotogalleriet is seeking an Artistic Director

Fotogalleriet is a leading exhibition venue for photography and camera-based contemporary art in Oslo, producing exhibitions and professional programmes with Norwegian and international artists.

 

The position of Artistic Director involves responsibility for planning and implementing Fotogalleriet’s exhibitions and artistic programme, as well as day-to-day operations, finances, and personnel. The role offers significant scope for professional and personal development.

  • Plan and deliver the gallery’s exhibition programme and professional events
  • Develop and implement Fotogalleriet’s strategic plan and artistic vision
  • Represent Fotogalleriet publicly and act as a clear voice in the field
  • Oversee operational and financial management, including budgeting and grant applications
  • Lead and manage the gallery’s staff
  • Drive Fotogalleriet’s communications and visibility across platforms
  • Expertise in contemporary art, with a particular focus on photography and lens-based practice
  • Relevant arts education
  • Self-driven and innovative, with the ability to turn ideas into reality
  • Solid curatorial experience and a broad professional network in the field
  • Proven leadership experience in a comparable organisation
  • Experience with managing budgets, writing grant applications, and reporting to funders
  • Excellent communication and collaborative skills
  • Fluency in Norwegian, Swedish, or Danish, as well as English

This is a fixed-term position of 4 years with the possibility of extension.

Fotogalleriet was founded in 1977 with the aim of promoting artistic photography and knowledge of photography as a free and personal means of artistic expression. Today it is organised as a foundation receiving regular support from the Norwegian Arts Council (Kulturdirektoratet), the Norwegian Photographic Fund, and the City of Oslo, and is part of the Kunsthallene i Norge network.
